computer no. 1

2018

computer no.1 is a 16mm projector turned computer that displays a programmed pixel-art show. echoing early computer systems that used punched paper tape for programming and data transmission, cpu no.1 uses a looping 16mm film and hacked light sensors to create a low-fidelity image. the animated program drives a series of geometric patterns within a 2x2 pixel tungsten bulb display. exploring the structure of image transmission, cpu. no.1 reflects the pipeline of consumption - analog to digital, code to eye - of screen based images.
